Medan

Medan, capital of North Sumatra, was the city's biggest commercial and economic center in Sumatra. The town continued to grow into a business centre and became the gateway to Northern Sumatra, where tourists come to outdoor adventure in the Highlands of Lake Toba or entering the wild forests of Sumatra.

First, the terrain is home to merchants and sailors. They take shelter under Islamic Malay Kingdom until eventually the Sultanate of Aceh Darussalam successfully prevailed against it. During the conflict, the location of the land used as abattle field between the two kingdoms so that there's an assumption the word "terrain" translated literally from the Wordfield or terrain.

The modern history of Medan have been started in the 1860s when the seller recognize the potential of its richvolcanic soil for gardening. In 1865 a businessman Netherlands introduces tobacco in the area so as to usher in the Fieldduring prosperity. This reason led to the influx of foreign investment and the flow of capitalist Europe. Tobacco crops, rubber, oil palm and tea are grown in all areas of hapir in Medan. From the next field is a small village grew into aprosperous town colonial. 1886 Netherlands made the Field as the capital city of North Sumatra to make residents of Medan to swell to about 80,000. Now the population of citizens of diverse Terrain, almost every ethnicity is here, such as Malay, Javanese, Batak, Minangkabau, AcehIndia and China.

Now being the third largest city in Indonesia. The influence of the past glorious plantation producing traces left as European architecture in various buildings of the city. As a result, the current Terrain into a city with a mix of modern lifestyle and colonial heritage.
